Delete Fingerprints from a Basic Clock
If you need to remove a fingerprint that you have enrolled at the clock, you can do so from the Enrollment Menu. They can be removed from the clock's memory using the PIN associated with the fingerprint or by touching the finger itself to the prism. The delete option is especially useful and important if the same finger has been enrolled with more than one PIN or you are just testing the enrollment process and want to remove the fingerprint.
Which Clock are You Using?
Before you start, it is important to ensure you are reading the right article. This article applies to our basic biometric clocks, which include:
- Punch+
- Z33 and Z34
- Z18 with Print Reader
If you are using a Touch or TUFF clock, these instructions do not apply. For those clocks, the fingerprints are deleted from within the software. See the article Manage and Delete Fingerprints.
Delete a Fingerprint
These instructions are for deleting the fingerprint from the clock itself. There is also an option to delete prints from within the software. See the article Manage and Delete Fingerprints for more on that process.
To delete a fingerprint at the clock:
- Press "3" to access the Enrollment Menu.
- Validate your access with whichever method has been set up for you: either entering your manager password, followed by OK, or scanning your print. If you have just installed the clock, the default manager password is "1234".
- If you see a warning because you are still using the default manager password, the screen reminds you how to change the password on the subsequent menu. Press OK to advance past this screen.
- Press "2" Delete Finger.
- Either enter the PIN associated with the fingerprint or scan the employee's fingerprint.
- You'll will be asked, "Do you want to delete this print from the server and any other clocks on this account?"
- "1" deletes the print from the server - With this option, the print is delete from the clock and a message is transmitted to the server instructing it to delete the print from its database. That message will eventually be relayed to all your other clocks, which will also delete that same print automatically.
- "2" delete locally - The print is only removed from this particular clock. It will remain on the server and other clocks until you delete it from within the timekeeping system.
- Press OK to return to the Enrollment Menu.
- Press X (exit) to return to the clock entry screen.
If you choose option 1, delete from server, the record of the print shows as "Deleted" on the Biometrics Maintenance page in the timekeeping system.
If you choose option 2, delete locally, the fingerprint can still technically be retrieved from the server and put back on the clock. This is done with a Full Download from the Enrollment Menu. See the article Print Downloading on Ethernet Clocks for more on that process.
